Stay Smart Online

Image borrowed from esafety.gov.au

The Australian Government previously had a website for online safety education and resources for children, parents and teachers called CyberSmart.gov.au. It was a great resource that I was happy to point my own children towards and use as part of education.

Earlier this year The Government announced the creation of a new Children’ Cyber Safety Commissioner and it look like Alistair MacGibbon was out to set a mark early. However, CyberSmart.gov.au was decommissioned and its content collapsed into esafety.gov.au. It was horrible. Navigating the site was painful and felt like it was overmuch constructed by a policy maker and not someone passionate about cyber safety. This was evident when I set out to educate fellow parents and point them to easily accessible resources.

Recently I received their new Cyberzine (newsletter) and clicked through to see what had been updated on the site.

It looks like the site has been updated and access to the content is functioning well. Previously the site linked to poor text pages or got you into an endless loop trying to access content.

So if you are looking for self education for yourself and your family be sure to check out the new esafety.gov.au site.
